SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Wednesday evenings in the Lakes

This Wednesday sees the final LOC technical race of the current season, in Eggerslack near Grange over Sands. Close to SROC-land and well worth doing, with recommended fish and chips in Grange afterwards. Meanwhile details have been released of the popular WAROC Battleaxe series which commences the following Wednesday.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Spring Series League results

The Astley Park event last Saturday was a resounding success and resolved all the placings in each class. A special mention must be made of the fast improving Beth Davey, who scored maximum points in the Series in the W10 to 14 class. She is shown here receiving her prize from Club Chair Mark Edwards, as is Chris Roberts who won the Mens Open category.
Look out next for our Summer Sprints (or Short Course Orienteering), suitable for all.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Spring Series event 3, Astley Park

A good turnout enjoyed the weather and Roy's courses in Astley Park, Chorley today. Indeed the Orange course proved so popular that we had to recycle maps when they ran out. The organiser wishes to thank all those who gave up their map and if anyone would like either a printed copy, or a pdf file of the Orange map, please contact webmaster@sroc.org. Results may be viewed here, and RouteGadget is ready to receive your routes here. After the event prizes were presented to the category winners. A final series table will be published soon.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Oustanding JK2015

To borrow an educational term to describe last weekend's JK, SROC has been awarded the following judgements:

Organisation (Day 1) - 'Outstanding'
Planning (Days 1 and 4) - 'Outstanding'
Volunteering - 'Outstanding'
Lancaster University Map - 'Outstanding'
Thank you to all members of SROC who made any contributions to the success of JK2015
In reality, the organisation and planning for this level of event starts years in advance. SROC are fortunate to have members with a wide range of skills and who are prepared to give up a tremendous amount of their spare time to make sure JK2015 would be the best yet.
Tony Marlow, assisted by Martyn Roome, were superb organisers of Day 1. Also David and Miriam Rosen, Quentin Harding were expert planners. Chris Roberts produced an excellent map for the Sprint race at Lancaster University.
These events can only operate if an army of volunteers are willing to give their support. It was affirming to witness so many SROC members, new and old, giving of their time to ensure the sprint event began with a metaphorical bang. Some of our club members also willingly helped on other JK days.
Thanks also to other NW clubs who helped on the day.
Do go to our Twitter feed and Facebook page to read the positive comments from all around the country.
Mark Edwards - club chairman
